Kim is a wife, mother, school teacher (homeschools), organizer, volunteer, runner, photographer and most of all an advocate for her children. When Tyler started having strange symptons and was ill at the age of 8, she sought every Doctor she could find. She was told over and over it was growing pains not to worry, a virus, or some just believed she was a hypochondriac about her child. But, when a mother's heart is pricked by God that something is wrong, perserverence sets in.
Kim's tenacity finally led to a Doctor and a Diagnoses that would lead to saving Tyler's life. Tyler has several diagnoses now that enable the Doctor's to treat him and help him lead a fairly healthy life except when he does get sick. His Doctors now understand how to treat him and his recovery is faster. His body will start to run down a couple of times of year but Kim has learned how to cope and adjust life to those times to help Ty.
But her situation does not stop at Tyler. They have just found out that Thomas also carries an identical gene as Tyler which causes severe Migraine headaches that can lead to some very critical moments. Tyler tends to lose oxygen and blood pressure. Thomas just had his first episode and was rushed to the ER but the Migraine Regiment worked very well for Thomas and he was able to come home from the hospital.
Kim's tenacity again led to finding out that Thomas was heading in the same direction as Tyler.
As you will hear from Kim throughout her blog, she is tenacious, high spirited, hilarious and most of all passionate about her family. For me, during our times together at the hospital and coffee times, it gace me strength to ask questions that at times I was afraid to ask. Kim, is a strong role model for strength in that "unknown" we call healthcare. That passion also allows her to ask questions, press through when things do not seem "right", and press on helping her kids live a full, "normal" life.
